What's wrong with Culture? The value of the intangible now! Diana Mavroleon in discussion with Sergio López Figueroa, Founder and Director of Big Bang Lab (www.bigbang-lab.com) about the music and film project 'Delhi City Symphony' and the development of CSR Cultural Social Responsibility. CSR as Cultural Social Responsibility Why is culture outside of CSR or under-represented by social enterprises? Are cultural enterprises committed to social change? What is the common language of CSR, Cultural and Social Enterprises? We will be discussing the role of culture towards social change, sustainability and socio-economic development, presenting a Big Bang Lab case study. Come and join us for the London premiere of the silent film: 'Delhi City Symphony' and the documentary 'Building Fragments'. Date:Thursday, February 18th, 2010 Time: 7.00pm Event: Film screening: 'Delhi City Symphony' and ' Building Fragments' (followed by an open discussion and networking event at the bar) Location: The Hub, 34b York Way, N1 9AB (nearest tube: Kings Cross) For more information and booking: http://globalcitysymphony.eventbrite.com Discount for Hub members: write to us to get the code for a £2 off Contact: event@bigbang-lab.com Background: In 2009 a group of underprivileged children living in sheltered homes in Delhi participated in the creation of a documentary about the city. Filming around their neighborhood, the streets and a Heritage site, they came up with their own conclusions about social and environmental issues affecting the city. As a result of this participatory creative process they also engaged with their own musical heritage by producing original music for the film. The live performance took place on World Heritage Day at one of the main cultural venues in the city. After the project finished we were left with the question: What next? How can this model benefit communities in the UK and Globally? Big Bang Lab is a cultural-social enterprise working from consultancy to production creating and delivering creative learning programmes, outreach projects and cutting edge productions combining original music with audiovisual archives to create new digital silent films. lt is the only UK creative agency that combines digital media, archives and original music production to engage participants and audience with cultural heritage, social, environmental and contemporary issues. Global CIty Symphony, is Big Bang Labʼs Cultural Social Responsibility programme on development. A hybrid international partnership programme across urban regeneration, intercultural dialogue and global citizenship.
